Practice 2

Exhibition

Tonight saw this project coming to a close with the exhibition. The exhibition was a success, there were plenty of people that turned up and everyone was in good spirits. We were happy with how our piece looked, the photo’s on here do not do it justice. As individuals we have learnt new skills that we can take with us into our own practice.

Final Preparations for Exhibition / Exhibition

Research, Planning and Building the Bear Artefact

The building of the bear artefact was undertaken by Alex Devlin. Here are the workings and designs:

Exhibition Preparations

Today we met up as a group and worked hard to try and bring everything together ready for the exhibition tomorrow evening. The video has been made (which i am unable to upload) that will be our backdrop. The text has been added and animated and the bear has been cut out and painted, hopefully it will be dry by tomorrow. Tomorrow will be our final chance to correct anything and we have until 5pm, thereafter the work will be assessed and shall be on show to the public from 6.30pm-8.30pm, so tomorrow will be a long day but hopefully a successful one.

If you are in the Hatfield area, please feel free to attend and enjoy all of the work created by the students.

Ambigram Designs

These are the final designs that have been made for the ambigrams. These were made using Photoshop CS5. These are 180º rotational ambirams and will read exactly the same when rotated at 180º. They will be animated and added to the background tomorrow.

Building the Exhibition

The deadline for the completion of our installation is nearly upon us and we have been working individually to complete specific tasks.

The background that will be projected has now been animated and needs to be put together with our chosen words (which will be animated also) and the bear shape that will be creating a silhouette against our backdrop. I do not have the video of the background to hand at the moment but am hoping to be able to post it to the blog sometime tomorrow.

Here are the design ideas for the bear that were created by Alex Devlin (MA Fine Art).

Tomorrow shall be a busy day but it will be nice to finally start to see the pieces coming together.

Gallery Space

Yesterday we had a meeting with our tutors to discuss our final plans and to decide where best our work would be situated within the Art & Design Gallery. We have now been allocated a space, this should hopefully make testing much easier as we now know the confines of our exhibition space.

Setting up and experimentation

Mock up

finalmockup

This is what we are hoping to achieve. The bear’s shadow will be cast into the woodland scene, words will appear from the bear’s mouth then do a 180º spin (and being an ambigram this word will appear the same when turned upside down), the word will then fade and the next word will appear and so on. The viewer’s shadow can also be cast onto the woodland scene.

Looking at Ambigrams

Ambigram

“An ambigram is a word, art form or other symbolic representation, whose elements retain meaning when viewed or interpreted from a different direction, perspective, or orientation.”

Wikipedia. 2014. Ambigram. [online] Available at: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ambigram [Accessed: 4 Feb 2014].

We have also been looking into other ideas for our installation just in case we face some problems with the one that we have planned. One possibility was designing an artefact so that the audience could interact with the art.

Below is a description:

Light projection.

This was a quick test to see what the image produced would look like. It is able to be turned around by the viewer and read the same. Along with this we were thinking of projecting some kind of light beams.
